About Us

Greetings from the Baldwin family! We welcome you to our family owned and operated farm!

Our History

The Sayre Baldwin Farms story began in the late 1930's when our father, Sayre Baldwin, began farming in Long Island, NY. He began growing potatoes on his 500-acre property and selling throughout the northeast. His son, Dan, joined in the family business and worked alongside his father as the farm continued to expand. Almost 20 years later from the farm's beginning, in 1948, Sayre incorporated the farm under the "Sayre Baldwin, Inc." name. Sayre and Dan continued to grow potatoes and also began packing potatoes for distribution throughout the east coast. Over time, increases in cost of land and property taxes, development, and growing difficulty for trucks to reach their area began to force farmers out of the area. In the 1960's, potato farm acreage in Long Island shrunk from 40,000 to less than 5,000 acres.

East Coast Wholesale Distribution

In 1994, we moved the farm to Bridgeville, Delaware where we established ourselves as wholesale potato farmers, operating under the same Sayre Baldwin name and providing large quantities of potatoes to area businesses. Fifty years after the first Long Island potato farmer fled encroaching development, we found a property on the Delmarva Peninsula where we could grow potatoes and carry on our repacking operation. The new Bridgeville farm location was ideal with easy access to transporation routes. We planted our first Delaware potato crop on 350 acres of the former Bob Rider farm and processed 100 tons of potatoes each day to the east coast market. Over the years, the farm expanded and we began to grow and wholesale several different varieties of watermelons and other produce throughout the east coast market including Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

"The Tent" at Sayre Baldwin Farms

In the spring of 2017, our family opened it's farm to the public. We set up a large 1,800 square foot tent (popularly known as "The Tent") and began selling our produce to the local Bridgeville, Delaware area. Our products range from farm-grown potatoes, watermelons, and leafy greens to seasonal plant and decorations - and everything we sell is grown here at our farm.

New Family-Friendly Activities

In the fall of 2017, we kicked off our inaugural year of activities geared toward families and groups. We partenered with Maize Quest® Corn Mazes to add a corn maze, pumpkin patch, hayrides, and kid's fun zone at the farm - primarily for the fall season.

In the Community

Our goal is to provide quality produce and family fun to residents of our community and surrounding areas! We love our community and continue to look for ways to support it.

We look forward to seeing you at the farm!
